Albion Kicking Off New Project at University of North Georgia

Albion is thrilled to break ground on the Observatory Replacement at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Albion has partnered with Architecture Firm Warren Epstein & Associates, Architects, Inc. Principal and founder Warren M. Epstein has been in the private practice of architecture for over 55 years. Principal and president Kyle F. Epstein joined the company full-time in 1990 after having worked for this and other firms during his academic career. . Between Albion and Warren Epstein & Associates, Architects, Inc., they have completed over 50 projects for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

The team is working together on this Observatory Replacement for UNG’s main campus in Dahlonega. The existing Observatory is an approximately 1,100 GSF facility utilized for astronomy instructional labs, undergraduate and faculty research, joint research projects with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and community outreach through public viewing.

According to the University, the structure has reached the end of its life cycle and has multiple building envelope, mechanical, operational safety, and ADA deficiencies. Thus, UNG desired to have it replaced and completed in time for Fall 2020 classes.

This ‘Observatory Replacement’ will replace the current facility with a new 3,200 GSF single-level structure which will accommodate modern observational equipment with sufficient instructional areas to meet the academic, research, and public outreach needs for UNG.

Albion and Warren Epstein & Associates, Architects, Inc. are thrilled to be the design-build team awarded this project. We look forward to sharing updates of this exciting project.
