Cobb County Switzer Library

In July 2019, Cobb County awarded Albion, in partnership with design firm Clark Patterson Lee and library design specialist, 720 Design, the renovation and expansion of Switzer Library located in Marietta, Georgia. The library has been a staple location for members of the local community for nearly thirty years. This is the first major renovation since the library opening in 1989, and included a number of brand-new much needed features that will be enjoyed for decades to come. Among these features included Lower Height Stacks – to increase lighting levels and visibility, The New Service Desk – located to improve visibility throughout, A Dedicated “Maker Space” and Family Computing Space on the main floor, encourages self exploration and creativity without disturbing other patrons, An Accessibility Services Room – providing a comfortable, welcoming environment for patrons with disabilities, sensory processing disorders and library patrons in need of a calmer environment, The Improved Georgia Room – that houses 15,000 items containing information about local history and genealogy and Cobb Library’s local history and now has a dedicated conference room and additional space overlooking Marietta National Cemetery, An Outdoor Plaza – with 5,500 sq. ft. of secure space for library programming activities, seating and a garden area accessible through the Hattie Gaines Wilson Youth Services area, A New Children’s Programming Room and a second “maker space” for teens, A Landscaped ADA Accessible Route – that provides safe access from a busy downtown thoroughfare sidewalk to the library’s main entrance. The Existing Community Room was upgraded with more functional furniture, brighter finishes, and better presentation technology available to staff and the public using the space, A New Computer Classroom Space – is available to provide public training of basic computer knowledge. In 2021, Albion received the DBIA-SE 2021 and 2021 AGC Build Georgia awards for the new additions to the library.
