Albion Celebrates Volunteer Month in the Atlanta Community

Our Albion team stepped out to lend a helpful hand this April with two wonderful organizations! Albion celebrated this National Volunteer Month by partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to volunteer their time and efforts to help support each organization’s mission. National Volunteer Month is meant to serve as a reminder to provide small acts of kindness to create positivity and inspire others to volunteer in their local communities.

On Thursday, April 18th, Assistant Project Manager, Faith Britton and Project Administrator, Ally Daugherty spent the afternoon with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Faith and Ally lent their hands to join the fight against hunger at the ACFB’s Hunger Action Center to assist with sorting and packing recently donated food, repacking produce and grains for families, and boxing non-perishable items for seniors across Atlanta. By the end of the day, the volunteers had packed 15,931 pounds of food, which will in turn provide 13,275 meals to local families!

“Growing up, I was fortunate not to go without food. However, I’ve met people throughout life who didn’t have food to feed their families, and it was heart-wrenching to watch. Although helping others makes me feel good, that’s last on my list because it’s not about me,” said Faith.  “I volunteer because I want others to feel good about themselves while not worrying about whether their family will be able to eat another meal. Being hungry isn’t a choice or something people sign up for; nevertheless, being dedicated to ending hunger is my choice.”

On Saturday, April 20th, Assistant Project Manager, Temi Aladegbemi, Marketing Coordinator, Hilary Sigler, and Superintendent Intern, Will Cox laced up their work boots for a day of interior and exterior tasks with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. The Albion team joined the Habitat efforts on Day 6 of eight to assist with cabinet installation and interior and exterior painting along with exterior finishes on the home. The team partnered with the home’s sponsors, The Maclean’s, and other local volunteers to construct the forever home for Barbara, a retiree who dedicated twenty-seven years to the United States Postal Service. The team got a chance to work alongside Barbara and the Maclean’s on Saturday, which allowed for a well-rounded and memorable experience.

“Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is always such a rewarding and selfless experience for me! Every task, no matter how small, feels like a significant contribution. The shared sense of accomplishment among volunteers, knowing we’ve had a hand in building Miss Barbara’s beautiful new home, reaffirms the importance of giving back to your community and the power that comes from a collective effort to create lasting change in others’ lives.” says Temi.
